- Roundabout Records is on track to open for business in mid-2016.
A new vinyl pressing plant is due to open midway through this year in Adelaide.
CityMag report that Roundabout Records in South Australia has acquired a rare 1950s Neumann AM-32 lathe from Auckland, New Zealand, which was originally used in Wellington's HMV Studios and, later, EMI in Lower Hutt. The machine was originally posted for sale on a forum and, as Roundabout head Colin Forster tells it, "I was the first one to get to Auckland. A guy jumped on a plane in Germany that night, and a guy jumped on a plane in America that night, and just because I got there first, I was pretty lucky."
The Adelaide Hills facility will be the only pressing plant in the state and will also offer recording and mastering services. Scott tells CityMag that Roundabout's output will be on the smaller end of the scale—a "more boutique" approach—aiming for runs of 100 to 1000 units per press.
