  • SoundCloud has announced its new subscription service for the UK and Ireland. The news comes after SoundCloud launched the same service, SoundCloud Go, in the US back in March. For £9.99 a month—€9.99 in Ireland—users are given access to a larger database of music, offline listening and ad-free access. A 30-day free trial is also available to prospective users. Non-paying listeners will now need to contend with advertising in the form of in-stream audio ads, promoted profiles and creator partnerships saysTech Crunch. However, artists can now choose to use ads as a revenue stream, as well as deciding which of their tracks enter in SoundCloud's paid or free tier. SoundCloud's chief revenue officer Alison Moore told The Guardian that "the introduction of advertising forms a cornerstone of our commitment to the interest of our creator community. Each time an ad is heard in SoundCloud, an artist will get paid, and help to ensure the free offering remains available alongside the premium option." The announcement follows a series of high-profile agreements between SoundCloud and conglomerates like Sony and Universal Music Group, and pitches the company against competitors like Spotify and Apple Music.
