  • Esplendor Geométrico will stage their first US performances later this month. The duo, comprising original member Arturo Lanz and Saverio Evangelista since 1990, got their start back in 1981 recording harsh, rhythmic soundscapes influenced by Throbbing Gristle and Coil. Their fourth album, 1988's Mekano-Turbo, saw the group moving towards an industrial-dance sound. In recent years, they've become a favorite of modern, techno-leaning acolytes of the '80s EBM and industrial scene. Glasgow label Contort Yourself put one of their tracks on a split with Prostitutes and Beau Wanzer last year, signing up Oliver Ho's Broken English Club for a remix. Dirk Ivens, whose pedigree in the industrial scene as a member of Absolute Body Control and Klinik stretches back even further than Esplendor Geométrico's, will join on the two American dates. The group will start in LA at the long-running goth and industrial night Das Bunker, which has also hosted veteran groups such as Front 242 and Severed Heads over the last year. That concert happens at Union on May 27th with Silent Servant on DJ duties. A couple days later, Esplendor Geométrico and Ivens are at Rough Trade in Brooklyn. The group has uploaded most of its output to the Esplendor Geométrico Bandcamp page. Take a listen here.
