  • New York label Purple Tape Pedigree has announced a new audio zine that will come as a monthly cassette. The label—run by NYC native Geng—tends towards leftfield club experiments and abstract bass music. They've had releases this year from artists like DJ NJ Drone and Endgame (the latter scored high marks with RA reviewer Andrew Ryce). PTP's monthly cassette series will include a 15-to-20-minute mix of originals from a featured artist on one side and a conceptual audio collage on the flip. "The aim of the featured artist side is to elevate the 'mix' format from the current 'promo' framework," Geng wrote over email. "The B-side houses the issue of the zine which uses found clips mined from various corners of the internet to weave a patchwork narrative." The first featured artist is Vancouver producer Baby Blue. You can listen to the full A-side and clips of the B-side at the Purple Tape Pedigree Bandcamp page. Tracklist A Baby Blue - Void Gate B CELL 01 CELL, Issue 01 is out now on Purple Tape Pedigree.
