A new party from Abstract Science and Don't Trust Humans will happen this Friday at Jerry's.
UN\BALANCE is a new collaboration between Abstract Science, who run a long-running Thursday-night radio show on WLUW 88.7FM, and the podcast and netlabel Don't Trust Humans. Its name is a reference to the seminal 2009 album Unbalance from 2562, AKA A Made Up Sound.
Abstract Science's Chris Widman had this to say about programming: "UN\BALANCE showcases a spectrum of music and performers that aren't often heard together on a weekend night. Instead of various shades of the same genre and same BPMs, the night will focus on the aesthetic and evolutionary connections between genres—especially electronic music from the US Midwest, the Midlands in the UK and subsequent mutations."
Aiming to be a quarterly event, UN\BALANCE begins this Friday in the side room at Jerry's, a Wicker Park sandwich restaurant and bar that's been voted the best sandwich spot in Chicago Reader's annual poll for six straight years.
Atop the bill is Lubin, who has an 2005 EP to his name on Axis offshoot 6277. More recently he's released on labels like UntilMyHeartStops, Chicago's Kimochi and his own Obvio digital imprint. Whoa-B will spin "Autonomic-style drum & bass and 120 to 130-BPM bass music," and a techno-oriented live set will come from a new name, the duo QEQ. Katzenmusik, AKA Kat O’Rly, who hosts the Monday-night WLUW show Destination Unknown, will start things out with ambient, IDM and braindance selections, while The Machinist takes care of visuals for the night.
Tune in to "Mediation Garden," one of Lubin's UntilMyHeartStops cuts from last year.
