Croatia's Obonjan island is without electricity or running water, with organisers of the month-long festival advising people due to arrive before August 3rd to change their plans.
The festival was due to start today, July 28th, with DJ Shadow and Machinedrum performing. However a statement revealed that the festival will not get underway until August 3rd at the earliest. UK promoter Sound Channel leased the island, located near Sibenik on the Dalmatian coast, in 2015. The likes of Four Tet, Floating Points, Jessy Lanza, Erol Alkan and Gilles Peterson are still due to perform as part of this year's programme, which runs through until September 8th.
Here's the statement in full:Obonjan Riviera Limited regrets to inform that we have had to take the difficult decision to postpone today’s opening until at least August 3rd, as the island is currently without running water or electricity. We sincerely appreciate the disappointment this causes to our early customers travelling out to support our opening, and the inconvenience to your holiday plans.
Please be assured that are working tirelessly to resolve the operational issues on the island to open as soon as possible but, in the meantime, are contacting everyone confirmed to stay with us for the opening week, personally, to assist with alternative arrangements and process refunds as quickly as possible.
For those already in Croatia, we understand this news is reaching you incredibly late and during your precious holiday time. Please contact our Croatian team (+385957332212 / +385957331671) who are working to secure alternative accommodation locally and can assist with rearranging any travel plans. We also have representatives at Split airport to assist with this.
We are advising all customers due to fly to Croatia between today Thursday, July 28th, and Wednesday, August 3rd, not to travel, but instead to liaise with our UK team (+442038087333 /
[email protected]) to reschedule for later in the season or else process a refund for you. We sincerely apologise for the disruption and thank you to all those who have been so understanding and supportive.
