- The 14 men who were arrested in connection with the blaze have been let go, though the investigation continues.
14 men arrested on suspicion of starting a fire at Studio 388 have been released without charge, reports the BBC.
The blaze, which also affected a nearby industrial warehouse and scrap paper processing plant, started just before midday on Monday, August 8th, with around 100 firefighters called to the south-east London nightclub. Fire crews remain at the scene almost 24 hours later, dampening the fumes from outside the venue, which is still deemed too structurally unsafe to enter. A large part of the club's ground floor and part of its first floor had been alight, say London Fire Brigade. (You can watch footage of the fire here.)
London's Metropolitan Police say the investigation into the fire's cause is ongoing. The only casualty so far is a 20-year old man, who was airlifted from the scene and taken to hospital. He remains in a critical condition with severe burns.
Studio 338's general manager released a statement yesterday, saying the club "will do everything and anything to get us all back dancing together as soon as possible." He added that as soon as the club understands what happened, "we will get straight onto what can be done for the near future and pre-booked tickets for events, which may now not be able to go ahead at 338."
