Jamie Jones, DJ Deeon to play new Leeds nightclub Church

- A new venue is opening in Leeds later this month called Church. The project is the brainchild of Tokyo Industries CEO Aaron Mellor and Back To Basics founder Dave Beer, who will be Church's creative director. The building, formerly known as student club Halo, is located on Woodhouse Lane, right by the University Of Leeds' main campus. It consists of a large main hall, a 500-capacity chapel and an outdoor terrace. There's also an old vicarage, which will be home to Back To Basics Music Academy, a space run by Beer and British businessman Jo Corré offering part and full-time courses in music production and other creative pursuits. "English clubbing has become substandard with everywhere being the same,” says Beer. "There's no individuality. This is going to be a safe space for all with no attention to detail spared. Once you're through the hallowed doors, you'll be somewhere otherworldly. Somewhere to express yourself and lose your inhibitions... Expect the unexpected." A string of parties have already been confirmed. Highlights include Back To Basics on October 8th (Damian Lazarus, Ralph Lawson), Cave Rave on October 21st (Santé, Matthias Tanzmann), Dance Mania on November 3rd (DJ Deeon) and Paradise on December 9th (Jamie Jones). Church will also host Back To Basics' 25th anniversary session on November 26th, though the lineup for that one is still TBA.
