"I wanted to take things back and pay homage to all those years at Space spinning records," says the UK DJ.
The party is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20th, at Space, the soon-to-be-closed club where Cox has been resident for 15 years. He'll play all night in the Discoteca, from 8 PM until sometime on Wednesday morning. Rather than sticking to his usual Traktor setup, Cox will play a mix of digital files and records. According to his team, the last time he played vinyl was in 2006.
"At the start of my residency, of course I only played vinyl but now everything is digital and has been for some years," says Cox. "I wanted to take things back and pay homage to all those years at Space spinning records. I want to show respect to those older tunes, dig out some of my old vinyl and play them alongside new tunes. A lot of the crowd probably won't have even heard them before, so it's a way of showing the music is still relevant. I thought it was a fitting way to say goodbye. I also want people to know I can still DJ with vinyl and make the house rock. This music has been my life and I want to share it one last time at Space."
Joining Cox at the closing will be tINI, DJ Sneak, Popof and Nic Fanciulli among others. He'll also play Space's own closing party on Sunday, October 2nd. That will be the final time he plays the club, calling time on a relationship that began in the mid-'90s.
