- Iris, a film score for a French crime thriller of the same name, has been edited into an LP.
Iris, a new album from ambient and modern classical duo A Winged Victory For The Sullen, is due out in January via Erased Tapes.
The third album from the collaboration between Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie and Dustin O'Halloran, Iris follows a 2011 self-titled LP and 2014's Atomos, the latter initially conceived as a score for a work from choreographer Wayne McGregor. (Those two were issued through both Erased Tapes and Kranky.) It's another soundtrack-based project, but this time for a recently released French crime thriller film, Iris, from director Jalil Lespert.
Wiltzie and O'Halloran were given the script for Iris and stayed in regular contact with the filmmakers while it was being created. The duo's efforts included crafting modular synth pieces alongside longtime collaborator Francesco Donadello in Berlin and recording with a 40-piece string orchestra at Magyar Rádió in Budapest. It's being put vinyl and CD formats, as well as a digital version featuring some bonus material: two solo compositions from Wiltzie, and music from Petite Noir, dOP, DJ Pone and The Shoes that also appeared in the film.
While the Iris album's release is still two months away, Wiltzie (who's also known as half of drone duo Stars Of The Lid) has a solo soundtrack, for Salero, a documentary about Bolivia's vast salt flats, landing on Erased Tapes later this week.
