- Julius' spring/summer collection, Knives, is inspired by the techno producer and his label.
Regis and his long-standing label Downwards have partnered with the Japanese fashion label Julius for a clothing collection called Knives.
Julius, run by designer Tatsuro Horikawa, operates as both an art and fashion project. Known for its severe, monochromatic style, the brand previously collaborated with Lucy's label Stroboscopic Artefacts as well as Viennese producer Electric Indigo. Horikawa also runs his own record label, Niløs, which launched in March with an album from ENA.
The designer's spring/summer 2017 collection, Knives, is an homage to pioneering techno producer Regis, real name Karl O'Connor, and his record label Downwards. It draws on the label's bleak industrial aesthetic, with lyrics from O'Connor's Sandra Electronics project written on some of the garments. The design takes inspiration from Downwards' roots in the "mid-'80s, Birmingham-born dark wave movement," they explain. It also makes reference to the British Murder Boys, Regis' collaborative project with Anthony Child, AKA Surgeon.
They unveiled the collection at a Julius event in Paris in June, during Paris Fashion Week, which featured a live performance from Downwards affiliates Samuel Kerridge and Autumns.
