  • An attack during a New Year's Eve party at Reina in Istanbul has left at least 39 people dead. The shooting happened at 1:30 AM on Sunday morning in the city's Ortakoy district, with reports that the club was packed with as many as 600 or 700 people at the time. The BBC reports that another 69 people were wounded in what Istanbul governor Vasip Sahin called a "terror attack" involving one gunman, though there are no further details. (Other outlets have reported that there were two gunmen dressed in Santa Claus costumes.) One police officer has been confirmed among the dead. The gunman is still at large. "A terrorist with a long-range weapon... brutally and savagely carried out this incident by firing bullets on innocent people who were there solely to celebrate the New Year and have fun," Sahin told reporters at the scene.
