  • Wolfgang Voigt will release his first album as Gas in 17 years on April 21st. The German artist released four albums of dense, symphonic ambient techno under the alias in the late '90s and early 2000s, which are widely understood to be among the most enduring recordings of contemporary electronic music. The project brought together the throb of techno, images of the country's forests, and references to the German Romantic classical tradition. Despite being just one of more than 30 aliases attributed to Voigt, Gas remains an influential force to this day. The new album, which is called Narkopop and spans 11 tracks, is the first original Gas material since Pop in 2000. Voigt's Kompakt label is handling the release, and it'll be available on CD, as a triple-pack vinyl and as part of an artbook package. Narkopop follows a recently released box set compiling Voigt's work as Gas. He is also playing shows under the Gas moniker for the first time since 2009, appearing at festivals like Donau in Austria, Dekmantel in the Netherlands and Terraform in Italy in the coming months. Watch a trailer for Narkopop.
