  • Goa state in India will start enforcing a ban on parties after 10 PM, says chief minister Manohar Parrikar. The former Portuguese territory on India's West Coast has long been a party hotspot attracting Western tourists. But amidst increasing attention on crime in the area, particularly around drug trafficking, prostitution and gambling (according to the state government), Goa will now start enforcing a ban on events after 10 PM. As Economic Times reports, Goa chief minister Parrikar said that he has instructed authorities to put an end to "late-night parties," some of which go until 3 or 4 AM in spite of the long-standing curfew of 10 PM. "Our coast is infested with the sale and trafficking of drugs," said Parrikar. "There is absolutely no control over it. We need to stop it. First of all, we need to stop the rave parties and all night parties which are happening here as there is abuse of drugs in them. Late-night parties are not part of our culture. We need not encourage them. They should be immediately shut down."
