  • Bjørn Torske and Prins Thomas have made an album called Square One, which is coming out through Smalltown Supersound in July. The pair are both key Norwegian electronic music artists who've known each other for more than two decades, but this is the first time one of their collaborations has seen the light of day. "We had some occasional get-togethers in my flat back in 1997, where we recorded Thomas playing bass on some sketches I had done," Torske told RA. "I still have it on DAT, but the recordings were distorted and not fit for use." Torske says the original plan was for him to remix Prins Thomas's album, Principe Del Norte. "I suggested that we should do this together in a studio in Oslo," he adds. "During a dinner we had the day before the session was about to start, Joakim at Smalltown Supersound said he had discussed with Thomas the possibility of us making some original music instead. He thought it was a unique opportunity to have us both together in the studio. So we agreed to this, and went in with no plan and just recorded by pure fancy." The album was recorded in a studio in Oslo, called Taakeheimen, in the spring of 2015. A year later, the edited tracks were mixed at another Oslo studio, Malabar, and finally, Torske explains, "we edited our live mix takes into the tracks that now are included on the album." Square One will see release on double-vinyl, CD and digital formats. Listen to album track "Arthur."
