  • CPU has announced its 50th release—two reconstructions of old bleep tracks by Sheffield duo Detromental. The Sheffield-based label has been putting out electro, IDM and techno heavily indebted to the city's legacy of bleep and experimental electronic music since 2012, featuring artists like DMX Krew, Plant43, Cygnus and Microlith along the way. Now they're celebrating their 50th release by looking back to the halcyon days of the Sheffield scene, with two tracks by duo Detromental, AKA Dean Marriott and Lloyd Douglass. Their records were only ever pressed in extremely limited runs, which means they fetch high prices on the collector's market. Last year, CPU founder Chris Smith saw that Detromental track "Rewind" had been uploaded to YouTube, and contacted Marriott to ask if he had the master tapes, which had since been lost. Instead, Smith decided to rebuild the tracks himself, using as many of the original instruments as possible. Move features these new versions of "Rewind" and "Move," as approved by Detromental themselves. Listen to clips.
