The Spanish promoter has offered refunds or ticket exchanges for a newly-scheduled party at Row 14 in Barcelona.
In a statement posted to Facebook yesterday, the Spanish promoter said "recent controversy" between neighbouring municipalities in the Catalonian province of Tarragona—Salou, the proposed location for the festival, and Vila-seca—resulted in the cancellation of the 20,000-capacity event. It's understood that authorities representing Vila-seca had objected to the one-day festival, which was scheduled for July 15th.
Instead, Elrow will now celebrate its seventh anniversary on the same day, moving the festivities to Row 14, the club it owns in Viladecans, Barcelona. The lineup, which included heavyweights like Richie Hawtin, Guy Gerber, Jackmaster and Jamie Jones, will remain the same. Anyone who bought tickets to the festival will be entitled to a refund or to exchange it for entrance to Row 14.
Here's Elrow's statement in full.
"We regret to announce the cancelation of our upcoming festival Friends & Family. Due to the recent controversy between the local councils, shown publicly in many local newspapers headlines, we have been recommended to cancel the event in order to not contribute any further to the political tension. Elrow always strives to have a perfect working relationship with the authorities and politicians at our events. Once arrived at this point, we have no other choice but to regrettably take this decision. It was our and the local councils interest to bring a world class festival to the area."
