- The Suicide frontman had been working on his "masterpiece and final statement" for six years alongside his wife.
A posthumous album from Alan Vega will be released next Friday on The FADER's in-house label.
IT, the 11th solo LP from the Brooklyn-born artist and Suicide frontman, is due out around the one-year anniversary of his death at age 78. We're told he envisioned the album as "both his masterpiece and final statement," and he had been at work on it since 2010, together with his wife Liz Lamere—she was often involved in Vega's solo records, and she's credited as a writer and producer on this one.
Vega got his inspiration for the album by "religiously consuming global news and taking frequent late-night walks alone throughout the streets of downtown New York." He dealt with some major difficulties while putting it together—he was the victim of a mugging that resulted in "vicious head trauma and physical setbacks due to age," and he suffered a stroke in 2012.
Besides a digital version, IT will be put on two slabs of vinyl, in both a standard edition and a special limited edition featuring transparent-orange wax, with a gatefold including unseen writings, drawings and photos from Vega. A series of "Alan Vega Week" events are also planned in New York to celebrate his memory, including the Keep IT Alive exhibition that opened last week.
