  • Alek Stark of Fundamental Records has announced his latest project, a 12-part tribute to late Drexciya member James Stinson. Music For The Other People Place will comprise 12 records released over 12 months—11 albums and one 7-inch. The first LP lands in September. The music will come from six different artists, all of whom are anonymous—though their names will be on the record sleeves in encrypted form, should any of the producers want to reveal themselves later. The series pays tribute to Stinson, who died in 2002, and his tendency to produce music under new and sometimes secret aliases (notably The Other People Place, whose classic album Lifestyles Of The Laptop Café was just reissued by Warp). It's meant to reflect Stinson's commitment to creative freedom more than his established electro style. "Do not expect this project to be a collection of Drexciya-style works," the website warns. Alek Stark runs Fundamental Records, a label known for its lavishly-packaged and lengthy compilations. (Last year it released a 12-disc DMX Krew retrospective.) Listen to a preview of the first three releases, due out in September, October and November, respectively.
