- The Nine Inch Nails member recorded the LP solely with an EMS Synthi AKS.
Alessandro Cortini has a new album on the way.
Avanti was inspired by a trove of Super 8 home videos made by Cortini's grandfather, documenting the Nine Inch Nails member's early childhood and family life. Cortini was struck by how the quality and degradation of the film itself matched his own patchy memories, and set out to create audio for the home movies using only an EMS Synthi AKS with no overdubs. The recording emphasizes the "anomalies and irregularities" of the films and the synthesizer, according to the press release.
"Just like the films, there are errors and mistakes in the music," Cortini says, "some of which became the theme and some which are peculiar things that happen once or twice."
The album will come via a new label called The Point Of Departure Recording Company, founded in partnership with PIAS.
Cortini is a member of the Nine Inch Nails touring band and is well-known in electronic music circles for being a gear collector. Just yesterday he opened an online store via Reverb to sell some of his used hardware.
