Subtext has announced a new Yair Elazar Glotman album called Compound.
It'll be the electroacoustic producer, sound designer and classically trained contrabass player's second Subtext release under his given name, and the label says it picks up where his Études LP from 2015 left off. While Études saw Glotman working as a solo artist to uncover what he called the "hidden sound" of the contrabass, Compound is rooted in trio improvisations featuring two more Berlin-based experimental musicians: pianist Rieko Okuda and percussionist Marcello Silvio Busato.
After guiding the group's sessions, where each artist had the "autonomy to emphasize the microscopic details of certain sounds," Glotman edited and layered the recordings to form two 20 minute-long "structures... [that] utilize the full spectral potential of each instrument, revealing new rhythmic patterns and harmonic content in the process."
Glotman, who first appeared on Subtext in 2014, has also made leftfield techno as Ketev and ambient-leaning material as Blessed Initiative. The latter project debuted on Subtext last year with a self-titled album.
