  • Palto Flats and We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records are reissuing Kakashi, the 1982 LP from Japanese saxophonist, producer and Mariah band leader Yasuaki Shimizu. The album, a playful blend of jazz fusion, dub and musique concrète, is considered an underground classic, and these days its original release commands a high price on the secondhand market. Now, Palto Flats—who two years ago reissued Utakata No Hibi, Mariah's highly regarded 1983 full-length—is giving it a remastered release in collaboration with WRWTFWW Records. The reissue, featuring extra liner notes from Shimizu himself along with music journalist Patrice Bollon, is out in November. Another Shimizu LP, 1987's Music For Commercials, was reissued on Crammed Discs a few weeks ago. Palto Flats and WRWTFWW Records teamed up earlier this year to re-release another artifact from Japan's '80s experimental electronic music scene: Midori Takada's Through The Looking Glass. Listen to an excerpt of Kakashi track "Umi No Ue Kara."
