  • Resident Advisor will this month launch RA LAX, a series of community-based events taking place across Los Angeles from November 30th through December 4th. The series comes two years on from our Real Scenes: Los Angeles documentary. For that film, we dove into LA's complex and sprawling underground music scene, and we found an abundance of creative people, collectives, record labels, radio stations and record shops. In December we return for a celebration of this scene. The week's programming brings our features, podcast and films into the real world, with the aim of drawing connections between the city's myriad musical communities. We'll begin on Thursday, November 30th, with a private filming of our performance series RA Sessions featuring E Ruscha V (AKA Secret Circuit), who has just announced a new album, as well as rising West Coast multi-instrumentalist Benedek, who mixes LA's funk tradition with unpredictable dollar-bin influences. On Friday, December 1st, a full day of events starts with an NTS LA takeover featuring Leaving Records boss Matthewdavid, Stones Throw artist Sudan Archives and crate-digging selector Bianca Lexis. In the evening, we'll head to Hollywood institution Amoeba Music for a free in-store event featuring DJ sets from Tropic Of Cancer and recent Playing Favourites subject Pete Swanson. At 10 PM, we'll travel down Sunset Boulevard to historic Silver Lake club El Cid, where we'll present a secret lineup of local heavy hitters in collaboration with Far Away. Recover on Saturday evening at Navel Studios, a new venue on the outskirts of downtown LA, where we'll host a talk between Midwest greats The Black Madonna and K-HAND, as well as a promoters roundtable showcasing community connections, featuring the minds behind leading LA parties like Dig Deeper, Droidbehavior, Directory and Spotlight. Sunday, we'll team up with LA radio institution Dublab for a six-hour broadcast at a scenic Silver Lake residence. The 10 AM to 4 PM session will stream on Dublab with live video handled by RA. We'll host LA Balearic mainstays Pharaohs, dub pop explorers Peaking Lights, Katie Gately, Cat 500, Master Of None music supervisor and record guru Zach Cowie, Daddy Differently and a special guest or two. We'll wrap up RA LAX with a Monday night show at new Frogtown venue Zebulon, where Laurel Halo will stage the LA debut of her new live show, with support from local modular wiz M. Geddes Gengras and Steven Warwick (formerly Heatsick). Get full details on RA LAX in the event listings below, and head here for up-to-the-minute updates.
