  • DJ Earl and Nick Hook have a collaborative album, 50 Backwoods, on the way via Fools Gold. The Chicago footwork producer and the New York studio wizard only started working together this year. They met through the late DJ Rashad, who was both a friend and a major influence for both of them. "We always had a vibe," Hook says, "but after Rashad passed we ended up getting closer. Carrying on Rashad's legacy is a part of what we do everyday. Earl had played me a ton of new demos, [with] him singing on stuff for the first time, it was just really inspiring." The album includes features from New York rapper Wiki, of the group Ratking, and the Jamaican MC Jacks. Recorded over the course of only one week, 50 Backwoods draws on elements of footwork, dancehall and hip-hop. Listen to "Hook Chop," featuring Wiki.
Tracklist 01. Liberate 02. I'm Smokin feat. Jacks 03. Energy 04. Hook Chop feat. Wiki 05. We The People feat. Melo-X 06. Mood Right Now 07. Liberate 08. Alice Fools Gold will release 50 Backwoods on December 8th, 2017.
