  • Durham, North Carolina's Moogfest has posted the first phase of its lineup for next year's event, which takes place from May 17th through the 20th. More than three dozen names have been announced for a festival program that will include the usual wide range of music events, talks and workshops. Organizers say they're leading with an emphasis on female, transgender, and non-binary artists and speakers—including former US Army soldier and document leaker Chelsea Manning, who'll take part in a keynote conversation "diving into how technology enables radical disruption in the personal and political spheres." Ellen Allien, Miss Honey Dijon, Aurora Halal, Umfang, Noncompliant (previously DJ Shiva) and Shanti Celeste are all confirmed, along with SOPHIE, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Caterina Barbieri, theramin player Armen Ra and Midori Takada, the well-regarded minimalist artist who's booked for her US debut. Other highlights include Carla dal Forno, Jenny Hval, Fatima Al Qadiri, LCD Soundsystem's Gavin Rayna Russom and Kyoka. The lineup announcement today coincides with the start of a 50-hour live stream, Always On, showcasing 50 female, transgender, and non-binary electronic artists as they broadcast from 17 different countries. It's hosted by Moogfest and Tom Tom Magazine.
