The Throbbing Gristle cofounder's latest full-length, titled Chris Carter's Chemistry Lessons Volume 1, is out March.
Chris Carter will release an album, Chris Carter's Chemistry Lessons Volume 1, in March.
It's the Throbbing Gristle cofounder's first solo full-length in 17 years. In recent years, he's released material as part of Carter Tutti (formerly Chris & Cosey) and Carti Tutti Void. The 25-track LP, recorded in Norfolk, was inspired in part by '60s radiophonic music. "Over the last few years I've also been listening to old English folk music," says Carter, "almost like a guilty pleasure, and so some of tracks on the album hark back to an almost ingrained DNA we have for those kinds of melodies. They're not dissimilar to nursery rhymes in some ways."
Carter also mentions the death of Throbbing Gristle bandmate, Peter Christopherson, who passed away in 2010, as having an effect on the LP. Chris Carter's Chemistry Lessons Volume 1 has vocals derived from the idea, first conceived with Christopherson, of "artificial singing using software and hardware." The album is due March 30th on Mute Records.
