- The LP features newly-discovered recordings from 1984.
Arthur Russell appears on a new release from composer Peter Zummo.
The American songwriter and trombonist discovered forgotten and previously unreleased recordings of his Six Songs suite in his archive. The music, which dates back to 1984, features Zummo on trombone, Arthur Russell playing his signature amplified cello, Bill Ruyle on marimba and Mustafa Ahmed on congas.
Zummo himself refers to Frame Loop as "an exercise in spontaneous arrangement," mostly sticking to a written score with occasional variations and diversions. Some material from Six Songs was released on Zummo's 1985 album Zummo With An X, and was also adapted for Lateral Pass, a score Zummo wrote for choreographer Trisha Brown.
Frame Loop will come via Foom, the label that also released the Lateral Pass score back in 2014.
