  • Native Instruments has opened a subscription-based website of royalty-free loops, samples and sound packs called Sounds.com. The new website is currently operating in a public beta that's only available in the US. There's a free tier offering downloads of selected sounds and access to a new search filter called Music Information Retrieval, which uses an algorithm to suggest sounds. A pro tier, costing $9.99 per month, gives you unlimited access to the entire archive of sounds—there are currently over 500,000, with more being added every day. Native Instruments' Maschine Expansions and sounds from companies like The Loop Loft and MVP Loops make up the offerings. You can browse and preview sounds without sign-up and sort them by key, BPM and other tags. Sounds.com operates out of Los Angeles under Matthew Adell, who started working as Native Instruments' chief digital officer last year when the company purchased MetaPop, a company that monetises remixes. Adell used to be the CEO of Beatport, which was sold to SFX in 2013. (Native Instruments worked with Beatport in the company's fledgling years.) Adell told The Verge that there's plans to make a plug-in for integrating Sounds.com into DAWs and described the site as "a cloud-based service."
