Irish authorities approve new €25 million proposal to develop Dublin music venue Tivoli Theatre

- New plans to redevelop the area surrounding Dublin music venue Tivoli Theatre, home to the 1000-capacity District 8 nightclub, have been approved by Irish planning board An Bord Pleanála. Following last year's failed attempt, Tivoli owner Anthony Byrne is once again spearheading the €25 million project, which will see a part of Francis Street in The Liberties transformed into a new square called Tivoli Square. According to The Irish Times, the redevelopment will include a 260-bedroom aparthotel, restaurants, a gymnasium, a shop and a cultural theatre and performance arts venue. The current Tivoli Theatre will be rebuilt, which will signal the end of District 8 in its current form. "The redevelopment plans have been in the pipeline for some time, and while it does mean the site won't be there forever, what we can say is the latest developments on the Tivoli site will not affect District 8 in the near future," said a representative from the club. "We have lots of huge shows booked for this year and have already started booking 2019. Beyond this, we have lots of exciting plans for Dublin in the future, and we're working on plans to relocate District 8." District 8 is one of Dublin's main house and techno clubs, with Helena Hauff, Bicep and DJ EZ among the acts confirmed for the coming months.
