Ryuichi Sakamoto composition soundtracks Japanese ice dancing performance at Winter Olympics

- A Japanese ice dancing duo skated to a Ryuichi Sakamoto composition at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Kana Muramoto and Chris Reed performed to Sakamoto's "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence," which originally soundtracked a film of the same name starring David Bowie. Virgin released the four-minute instrumental version—which charted in the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart and Irish Singles Chart—in 1983. Sakamoto is already having a busy year. In addition to a live recording, Glass, made with Alva Noto, he's also putting out an album of remixes from his 2017 LP async.
