  • Glastonbury Festival plans to ban plastic bottles from 2019. Festival co-organiser Emily Eavis shared news of the idea with BBC Radio 6, describing it as "the big project" for the festival's return in 2019. (2018 is a fallow year.) The plan is still in its early stages—a spokesman told the BBC that it's "a bit early to put any flesh on the bones" of the initiative. It's not the first time the festival has attempted to reduce the estimated one million plastic bottles used onsite each year. It introduced free water refill stations in 2014, while a "Love the farm, leave no trace" policy urging attendees to minimise wasteful behaviour came into effect in 2016. In the aftermath of last year's edition, Glastonbury was accused of employing and exploiting 100s of European works on zero-hour contracts, a claim that the organisers later denied.
