- It'll be the synth pop band's first gig in 15 years.
Soft Cell will put on a farewell concert in London on September 30th.
The gig, at the London O2, will be the synth pop duo's first since 2003. It's a final hurrah for a long-running but on-and-off band.
"With Soft Cell I always felt something was unfinished," frontman Marc Almond says in a press release. "This last-ever, final show will be the best-ever ending. It will be a real statement and send-off, and thank you to every fan."
The group—Almond and Dave Ball—were synth pop pioneers who formed in the late '70s and whose early work made a lasting impact on the new wave and synth pop scenes, as well as the burgeoning EBM and industrial communities later on. Soft Cell are best known for their cover version of "Tainted Love," released in 1981, though they have several other cult hits. Their debut album, Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, is generally considered a synth pop classic.
