London's Southbank Centre launches first-ever club night, Concrete Lates

- Southbank Centre will run a monthly electronic music night for the first time. The monthly Friday night, called Concrete Lates, will run till 2 AM, and will take place in the foyer area of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, which will reopen to the public on Monday, April 9th after a two-year renovation. The programme will skew towards experimental DJs and live acts. The first edition of Concrete Lates takes place Friday, April 13th, where Pan Daijing, JASSS and Giant Swan will perform. The inaugural event, produced and curated by Boiler Room, also folds in a retrospective of the German photographer Andreas Gursky, which visitors to Concrete Lates will be able to access till 1 AM. (A specially commissioned ambient mix from Daijing will accompany the exhibition in the Hayward Gallery.) The lineup for the following event, on Friday, April 27th, will include the turntablist and composer Shiva Feshareki, M.E.S.H., E.M.M.A. and Coby Sey. Tickets for Concrete Lates will be affordably priced, organisers said. "Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room have always been spaces for audiences to discover and enjoy music that's cracking open the status quo," said Bengi Unsal, the venue's senior programmer. "Concrete Lates brings that bang up to date, with a programme of artists who are among the most celebrated and progressive musicians working in experimental electronics today, and giving a platform to incredible and often underrepresented female talent."
