Moog has announced a Minimoog Model D iOS app.
Available on 64-bit iOS devices for an introductory price of $4.99, the new app captures the original circuitry and look of the influential hardware, which was first released in 1970. It comes with new functions, including four-note polyphony, an arpeggiator, looper, ping pong delay and an effect called Bender, which Moog describe as "a wide-range stereo time modulation effect module." The app is AUv3 compatible, allowing users to open multiple instances inside a DAW. Ableton Link and MPE are also supported.
The hardware Minimoog retails for upwards of $3000 and commands considerable prestige, driving manufacturers toward low-cost options. Arturia released an iPad version back in 2013, while Moog's take comes in the wake of Behringer's clone, which offers a version of the Moog sound for $299. Moog began building a new hardware version of the synth in 2016.
