- The South African singer and producer duo will release Closer Apart in July.
Okzharp will release an album with singer Manthe Ribane for Hyperdub this summer.
Closer Apart is the latest in a series of collaborations for these two South African artists, the most recent being their RA-recommended Dumela 113 EP in 2015. The now UK-based Okzharp, who got started with Hyperdub as a member of LV, says Ribane did more than just sing on the album—they worked together on aspects of songwriting and production. "She selected instrumental sketches and we developed them together," he explains, "sometimes just keeping the bare bones or a melody or rhythm, or trying different elements or sounds. In tandem."
"On the whole, the album has a softness and openness that contrasts the tougher sound of their previous EPs," Hyperdub says.
