- The Japanese vibraphonist's next solo LP will be released in July, coinciding with a reissue of his 2013 debut album.
Masayoshi Fujita has linked up with Erased Tapes again, this time to release a new solo album, titled Book Of Life, and to reissue Stories, his debut full-length from 2013.
Book Of Life is the final entry in a trilogy of albums that Fujita has written to highlight the musical possibilities of the vibraphone, a relatively new instrument often relegated to background roles in orchestras and bands. The Berlin-based Japanese artist has given it a leading role in this run of records, which continued after Stories, issued on Tokyo label flau, with Apologues' release on Erased Tapes in 2015.
We're told Book Of Life sees Fujita expanding his approach to composition by adding in more orchestral elements. Strings, brass and a choir (which includes vocalists who contributed to Nils Frahm's All Melody LP from early this year) all feature on the album.
Erased Tapes will release the new album on the same day they reissue Stories: July 27th.
Fujita has also recorded under the name El Fog, and he's worked with Jan Jelinek on a few records, the most recent being 2016's Schaum.
