  • A new 12-inch from Finnish experimental legend Mika Vainio and French artist Franck Vigroux is on the way via Cosmo Rhythmatic. Ignis draws on music the two artists crafted during a lengthy process that involved both studio recordings and live performances, which began around six years ago. We're told the efforts yielded "a huge amount of material that the duo actually decided to partition into more than one release," with a 2015 album for Cosmo Rhythmatic, Peau Froide, Léger Soleil, being "the first in line." Vainio died last year, which makes Ignis the first posthumous release from his partnership with Vigroux. The 34-minute EP is said to contrast with Peau Froide, Léger Soleil by offering "more spacious tracks and somber drones." It's due out in late June on vinyl and digital formats. Vainio was known for numerous other solo and collaborative pursuits, including Pan Sonic and Ø. RA took a look at his career with this feature last year. Vigroux, meanwhile, has carved his own path through experimental and electroacoustic music, both as an artist and as the head of DAC Records, formerly D'Autres Cordes. Listen to Ignis track "Luxure."
