  • Tangible Waves has introduced a new modular format called AE Modular. By eliminating costly parts such as printed metal faceplates, knobs and jacks, most AE format modules retail for between €20 and €40. Despite the low price range, the oscillators and filters are analogue, as the core sound-producing circuits used in most modules are comparatively cheap. Instead of the usual patch points you see in the Eurorack format, AE Modular uses a pin system found on some Bastl Instruments products and other devices. Knobs make way for pot shafts while printed graphics are replaced with durable ink stamps. A full suite of modules are currently available, including VCOs, VCAs, VCFs, sequencers, mixers, logic, sample & hold, effects and more. The system is also portable, with a dual-row case housing up to 32 modules that measures 44cm x 22cm x 4cm and weighs just 1.5kg. Watch a sound demo of the AE Modular system.
