- The residents' organisation has written to local councillors of San Antonio, San José and Santa Eulària expressing ongoing concern about the outdoor venues.
An Ibiza-based activist group has written to local councillors demanding "immediate action" over the island's beach clubs.
Diario De Ibiza reports that Prou! has accused representatives of San José, San Antonio and Santa Eulària of continuing to allow seaside bars and restaurants to play loud music and disturb the general public despite an assurance last month from Vicent Torres, Ibiza's tourism chief, that beach clubs had been made illegal.
Prou! says that noise levels regularly exceed legal limits for indoor venues, and that beach clubs cause "disturbance and annoyance" to bathers. The group's letter also asks for an explanation as to measures that local councillors will take over bars that advertise or operate as beach clubs. Ibiza Town and San Juan, both cited by Prou! in the letter, have already banned noise from similar venues.
The letter comes amid growing restrictions on nightlife in Ibiza. In March, San Antonio councillors approved a 3 AM curfew for bars and clubs in the West End (with terrace bars forced to close at midnight). In January, nine venues in the same area were issued with fines totalling over €9000 and temporary closure orders as a way to combat consistent excess noise.
Prou!, formed in late 2016, was set up by Ibiza residents to combat "harmful or illegal tourist activities." On their Facebook page, they say they want "to return to the peace and quiet of the traditional Ibiza." Last year, more than 3.2 million tourists went to the island, a five percent increase from 2016.
