Mezzanine will close next year.
The club, which has operated in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood for 15 years, is closing because its owners won't renew their lease, Mezzanine management said in a press release. They state that the building owners are "looking to replace the venue with commercial office space in hopes to maximize rent at a 600-percent increase." There are still a handful of events on the calendar through April of 2019, and the doors will officially close in October.
"Their decision makes an all-too familiar story for venues in the Bay Area that have been forced to close in recent years due to commercial development," the statement continues. Since opening in 2003, the venue has hosted acts such as LCD Soundsystem, Moritz Von Oswold, Lena Willikens, Floating Points and Oneohtrix Point Never, among others.
