- Comp x Comp features works that have appeared on other compilations, plus a previously unreleased collection by the artist AKA DJ Sprinkles.
Terre Thaemlitz has gathered previously unreleased work and music from other compilations for a new digital release on her label, Comatonse.
Comp x Comp features 76 "electroacoustic and ambient tracks" by the artist, AKA DJ Sprinkles, released via his new Bandcamp account over the weekend. Among the 76 are ten productions originally for German label Mille Plateaux. She says the "Mille Glaces" ("One Thousand Layers") shorts were for an anniversary compilation that was cancelled for financial reasons.
Thaemlitz has also included 47 mostly one-second tracks from his contribution to a compilation paying tribute to the inventor of the compact disc, James T. Russell. "CD technical specifications limit the shortest track length to one second, and the maximum number of tracks to ninety-nine," she explains in the Bandcamp description for the first clip. "Using these restrictions, I wished to fill the CD to capacity after all tracks by other producers on the compilation. The result was these 47 tracks—one of which contains sound. I was expecting them to be placed at the end of the CD, but to my surprise the staff at Alku decided to use my tracks to begin the CD."
The compilation also has an ambient rework of "Music Is Controllable Desire You Can Own" from the 2009 album Midtown 120 Blues. Listen to Comp x Comp below, and read more about each track's origins on Bandcamp.
