  • Glasgow is getting a new club in February called 500 GWR. The venue, located at 500 Great Western Road, was previously known as Viper, a club popular with students that shut in September 2018. The renovated space will boast a Funktion-One soundsystem (formerly installed at The Arches) and a no-cameras policy. It opens on Friday, February 1st. "What we're really looking to do is create a new intimate space where we all get back to what's really important: people dancing," the club's manager, Gavin Boyle, told Resident Advisor. "Since the demise of The Arches, Saint Judes, Chambre 69 etc., the city felt a little lost. After some time we discovered this disused space and with the owners breathed a new life into its fabric." The lineup for the opening is being kept under wraps, though Boyle told RA that they were all "Glasgow DJs" and "all very well-known." They will appear as Unusual Suspects, the name given to the club's roster of residents. Check out some photos of 500 GWR, and revisit Ray Philp's 2015 feature about Glasgow nightlife.
