- The seven-track LP is out on Shelter Press in March.
JAB will release his first album, Erg Herbe, via Shelter Press on March 7th.
The solo debut belies John Also Bennett's deep involvement in the New York City experimental scene and beyond. Last year, he put out a collaborative album with Christina Vantzou (as CV & JAB) on Shelter Press, a Kranky full-length with his band FORMA and a sci-fi inspired suite with his long-running project Seabat.
Bennett says his goal with his solo work "is to create nice, strange, and thoughtful music that reflects a genuine inner vision of self. I've been recording solo music for a long time without releasing any of it because I'm not able to let anything out that doesn't satisfy this criteria." While he has been working through ideas informing Erg Herbe for nearly a decade, JAB began recording in earnest during down time between his day job working for RVNG Intl. and other collaborative projects in 2017 and 2018.
Erg Herbe's seven tracks were primarily recorded at The Schoolhouse, a loft in Brooklyn where he lives and works using "modified Aphex Twin DX7 presets played using a just intonation tuning system, Eurorack oscillators... and a number of flutes including a Chinese 'dizi' flute borrowed from his father, noted avant-garde poet and mail-artist John M. Bennett."
Bennett will play a release show at The Schoolhouse on March 9th.
Listen to JAB's "A Little Breeze."
