- The Internet Archive has salvaged a percentage of Myspace's lost recordings, spanning 2008 to 2010.
The Internet Archive has uploaded 1.3 terabytes of salvaged Myspace mp3s, calling it the Myspace Dragon Hoard.
The news comes two weeks after Myspace lost 12 years' worth of music in a server migration error. Archivist Jason Scott posted the link on Twitter today, saying the package contains 490,000 mp3s spanning from 2008 to 2010—a small percentage of the lost recordings. They were originally downloaded by an "anonymous academic group" for research purposes, he says.
The files can be perused using a database searcher called the Hobbit (which takes a few minutes to load at first).
