  • J Majik is back with a new album on his label Infrared. Full Circle is James Spratling's first LP in more than 20 years, following 1997's Slow Motion. As the title implies, it's a look back at his roots and the golden era of '90s jungle, meant to emphasize the enduring "futuristic" sound of jungle in the wake of the neurofunk sound that largely replaced it. After an extended hiatus, Spratling was inspired to return to making music after DJing a Rupture party in London, where he felt "an atmosphere he hadn't seen since the '90s." The press release calls Full Circle an "optimistic" album with "filmic soundscapes à la John Carpenter." Spratling was a key artist in the early days of Metalheadz and was a resident at the Blue Note Sunday Sessions. He has also released records on labels such as Reinforced, Defected, Mo' Wax and more. Listen to "The Crow Knows."
