  • Sydney venue Freda's will be allowed to operate until 4 AM after being granted a rare license extension. From this weekend, the Chippendale party bar will be able to stay open for an extra two hours on weekends, building on the midnight-to-2 AM extension it was granted back in 2017. Being situated just outside of Sydney's lockout zone—which puts a cap on a venue's hours of service regardless of the license it holds—Freda's is a unique case of a venue hosting electronic music events in the city that has been given the opportunity to trade later into the night. The bar's owner, David Abram, released a statement on the news, saying "We have seen Sydney's nightlife go through a sad and painful decline over the last 6 years. However, this is an important turning point in Sydney reaching its immense potential as a late night city. We believe that safe, diverse, intelligent, and cultured spaces for like-minded people to connect and create are an essential part of a city's heartbeat. We are grateful that both City of Sydney, and ILGR have supported our application for extended trade, and we can further our commitment to showcasing the incredible arts, culture and music the city has to offer." A celebration event, Four To The Floor, will be held on May 10th with a lineup of Freda's all-stars yet to be announced.
