  • Apple will announce the end of its iTunes program next week. Bloomberg reports that CEO Tim Cook will reveal the change at next week's developer conference in San Jose. To replace the workhorse app, Apple will offer three separate, streamlined apps for the Mac operating system: Music, TV and Podcasts. (The same configuration exists on iOS for iPhones and iPads.) The new Music app will replace all music storage and organization functionality currently handled by iTunes. Since launching in 2001, iTunes revolutionized the music industry, helping drive sales away from physical stores and into the online realm via the iTunes store. The app also allowed users to buy and rent movies, as well as listen to podcasts.
