Numero Group is releasing a video game called Escape From Synth City.
The video game is inspired by classic side-to-side scroller games—specifically for the old NES console—and takes narrative and aesthetic cues from Tron and The Never Ending Story.
"As the protagonist, you've been transported to another dimension, courageously making your way towards the center of Synth City in the hopes of returning home," says the press release. "Across six levels you uncover the sinister undertakings of a corporation overexploiting the city's natural resources. You become intertwined with the destiny of the city and its inhabitants, unwittingly leading the charge against the powers that be."
The video game, which includes artists like Laraaji and Terry Ork as characters, is part of the reissue label's Cabinet Of Curiosities, which they call "a series of records culled by experiments in digital discovery, transformed into living, breathing art." Escape From Synth City was originally a playlist of '80s synth music, which then became a full-fledged compilation, including a vinyl release in NES-style packaging.
The game will be released for free online, but Numero Group will also sell a limited-edition controller bundled with a 7-inch containing chiptune versions of Escape From Synth City compositions.
