- The Chicago artist combines a wide array of influences, including vaporwave, ambient, prog and metal.
Chicago experimental artist Fire-Toolz will release her new album, Field Whispers (Into The Crystal Palace), on Orange Milk Records in August.
Fire-Toolz is the primary musical project from Angel Marcloid, who has released a prolific stream of vaporwave-adjacent music under various aliases like Nonlocal Forecast and on her two labels, Swamp Circle and Rainbow Bridge. Field Whispers (Into The Crystal Palace) "represents a near-complete break with vaporwave by way of the project's focus on completely original productions, harmonic progressions and live instrumental input," according to the press release.
Fire-Toolz, now on its eight album in four years, "compresses tropes and ideas from virtually every style of music in [Marcloid's] vast toolbox," including jazz fusion, sample collage, prog, metal and experimental sound design. Inspired by her study of quantum physics, nondual spirituality and philosophy, Field Whispers (Into The Crystal Palace) "also channels pure emotion from the mundanities of her daily life: her memories of suburban life growing up, the pure beauty of the natural world around her and the joy derived from her relationships with her loved ones and cherished pets."
