  • An asteroid has been named after ambient pioneer Brian Eno. It's been quite a year for the UK artist and thought leader. On Monday night, he received the Stephen Hawking Medal at the Starmus Festival in Zurich, Switzerland. In what the press release calls a "surprise accolade," the next morning he was given a certificate indicating Asteroid 81948 has been named after him. The certificate was presented by the astronomer who discovered Asteroid 81948, Marc Buie of the Southwest Research Institute. Previously named "81948 (2000 OM69)," it will now be officially called "Brian Peter George St John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno" (the artist's full name) or "Eno" for short. The news precedes an extended two-part reissue of Eno's celestially minded music—the 1983 album, Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks and his music for the documentary For All Mankind. Listen to "Capsule," made with Daniel Lanois and Roger Eno.
